It was fitting that the winner of this Quaich was none other than a Porteous. Andrew in this case. He blitzed the field with a year’s supply of birdies for us lesser players, in total five and a net score of 66.
Gordon Rae finished runner up with 68 and no less than three players returned scores of 70 with Callum Jeffery third with a better inward half. The first medal competition brought a great number of 7’s, 8’s 9’s and even a 10 was recorded. Two 2’s were recorded from Andrew Porteous and Ian Borthwick.
The Wednesday Stableford was won by Simon Tweddle with 20 points pipping Gordon Rae on the better inward score. 7 pars, 1 birdie and 1 boggy make a tidy round of golf.
This Saturday’s completion is the Life Members Trophy and is Medal play.
The Border Golf Championship is held on Sunday 26th May at Hawick Golf Club. It is 36 holes and entries are available on the BGA web site. Entry £15.
