Captain v President Day

Douglas Irving, 16 April 2019 17:58

Langholm Golf Club Opening Day

A cool but sunny day with a strong wind blowing from Cumbria made
conditions testing for the golfers who joined the Captain, Dennis
Little, when he drove off the first tee, to start the golfing season.
At least it went straight if not very far but he had the help of
Andrew Paisley who could show how it was done. The President, David
Latimer was paired with another long hitter, Ricky Henderson, oh, how
I envied them

The format was 4 ball better ball match play, and a shotgun start
which is all starting on different tees. A total of 24 players divided
into the Captains Team and the Presidents team would battle for honour
of holding the trophy.

A dry week had dried up the course after a very wet winter and the work
Doug and Robin had done over the past two weeks getting the course
into shape was very appreciated. Work has to be done on the greens
with moss killer applied and all other work that needs to be done.

The result of the match was a win for the Captain by four matches to
two and after a fine meal prepared by Alan and Stephen who did a
McCord version of “Pie and Beans”; David presented the trophy to
Dennis. We all gathered on the new steps built by Members, and a photo
or several to make sure it was right for publication.

Any reader who has an inclination to play golf can apply to join with
reduced fees for new members. We need new members, come and have a go.
We have a small but strong Ladies section and a lot of old men who
would like to see the average age drop.
